A popular technique, and very effective according to Neville Goddard, is SATS. SATS stands for State Akin to Sleep, which is the drowsy state just before falling asleep, or the state you’re in right when you are waking up. During this state, you are almost in a hypnotic state, where your subconscious is more assessable. This is when it is easiest to reprogram your mind with the affirmations and visualizations you want to use for manifesting with the law of assumption.
Below are some things you should know about SATS and how to use it to manifest your desires into your current reality.
When Does the State Akin To Sleep Occur?
Get ready with your visualizations or affirmations about 15 minutes before you fall asleep. When you can feel yourself almost dozing off and are getting drowsy knowing sleep is just a few minutes away, this would be the perfect time to begin this practice.
Your subconscious is most accessible and easiest to imprint when you are in SATS, as your active conscious mind doesn’t get in the way and tries to cloud your mind with a million other thoughts. Your conscious mind has a way of removing thoughts that it doesn’t easily believe or understand, which is why you need a time when you are completely relaxed, preferably in this dream-like state.
You should be conscious enough to where you are able to pull up your visualization and loop it in your mind, or be able to repeat your affirmations in your mind as you drift off to sleep.
What to Do During the State Akin to Sleep
The best way to use SATS, and what Neville Goddard himself recommended, is to have a short scene that you loop over and over again as you are falling asleep. The reason you want to keep looping it is that the longer you are able to focus on the visualization and keep your attention on that feeling of it, the easier it will be to imprint on your subconscious.
Treat your visualization as if you are watching a movie, or you are living in the wish fulfilled. Create the scene from a first-person point of view. With visualization, either method works great, so choose the method that feels best for you.
Another option for SATS if you aren’t good at visualizing or have trouble focusing on just one scene, is to use affirmations. You can choose a few affirmations that you keep looping in your mind as you are following asleep or thought-out the day as you go about your day. Choose around 2-3 affirmations so that they are easy to remember and get right.
Add feelings to your affirmations whenever you can. They will start to be more real as time goes on. Don’t say them in your mind. Say them with meaning and excitement. There is a big difference between “I am so wealthy” and “I am literally so rich I can buy anything I want”. The second might feel more like you than the first just because it adds a few extra words that are fueled with emotions.
Creating the Right Scene for Looping
While you can imagine anything you want for SATS, there are a few things that can make this visualization even more powerful for the law of assumption.
Make sure it feels natural and realistic, something your mind can wrap your head around. This doesn’t mean it has to be realistic in the sense that it could actually happen. You can manifest anything you want, there are no limits here. By realistic, I mean that it should feel like something that is possible for you to attain.
If you are not someone who likes talking on the phone, maybe you text in your scene as you tell your friend your exciting news, instead of calling your friend on the phone. It should feel natural and normal, as this manifestation is coming true.
Choose a scene short enough to loop over and over again. A common mistake people make with their visualizations is making them much too long and complex. Your conscious mind can also take over and put doubt in your mind about what you want to manifest. If your scene takes place over 10-15 minutes, you won’t be able to loop it and you risk it being different every single time. Choose a very short scene that is around 30 seconds or so. This is long enough to imprint it into your subconscious but short enough that you can keep looping it.
Feel it real. A good scene to loop for the law of assumption is one that eventually feels real. If you try a scene and loop it for several nights in a row, but you never connect to it, then it might not be the one for you. It should make you feel so good that it puts a smile on your face every time you go through it. You can actually feel those emotions of happiness, joy, and excitement.
Don’t Forget About Naps and Meditation
Don’t forget about other times of the day when you want to take a nap or during meditation, or anytime you are relaxed. The point is to do this during a time when you are completely relaxed, are not stressed about anything, and anytime you feel like your conscious mind is not going to take over and interrupt your visualizations.
Is SATS Required for Manifesting?
Absolutely not! Not everyone is able to fully visualize, and that’s okay. You don’t even need to use it to affirm your assumptions. It is just one of many techniques available to you. Happy Creating!
